The short version
A useful starting point
Consider the current Contentsquare offering for a workflow that combines behavior inspection and feedback.
A good fit if…
Teams assigning an owner to website research and follow-through.
Look elsewhere if…
You are relying on an old Hotjar plan description without checking the current offering.
If you are searching for Hotjar as a new customer, check the destination before following an old tutorial. The official site now says Hotjar is Contentsquare and directs new signups there. This review considers the current route for someone who wants to investigate a website journey and collect visitor feedback.
Read the current product scope
The transition page lists heatmaps, session replay and surveys among the available tools. That combination can support observation and a question to the visitor, but current plans and migration details should be checked directly. Do not assume an old Hotjar screenshot, allowance or account instruction applies to a new Contentsquare account.
Combine two kinds of evidence
For a hypothetical download page, a replay might show someone reaching the form and leaving. That is an observation, not an explanation. A short, neutrally worded feedback question can investigate whether missing information, an unsuitable offer or something else mattered. Avoid asking a question that already assumes the form was confusing.
Keep the answers alongside the behavior notes without treating respondents as representative of every visitor. People who choose to answer may differ from those who leave silently. The editorial task is to identify a plausible change and its supporting evidence, including evidence that conflicts with your preferred explanation.
Give the review process an owner
Behavior analysis creates work: selecting relevant sessions, interpreting answers, checking the page and deciding what to change. Assign that work before adding another dashboard. Review collection controls, access and retention for the journeys involved. A feedback answer can contain personal information even if your original question did not request it.
Evaluate one complete investigation
Choose a page, document the unanswered question and specify what a useful finding would look like. Try the workflow with non-sensitive examples where possible. Inspect the resulting notes and ask whether another team member could understand why a change was proposed. Also confirm the account path and available features on the current service, rather than using an older Hotjar comparison as a purchasing checklist.
Compare the workflow with the other options in our task-based comparison.
Review scope
This is a research-based editorial assessment of the linked official documentation, not a hands-on test or a performance benchmark. Suggested trials are evaluation exercises, not reported results. Confirm current plan access, charges and integration requirements before subscribing. Sources checked on 2026-10-24.
Strengths
- Observation and feedback can contribute different evidence to one page investigation.
Limitations
- Older Hotjar setup and plan descriptions may no longer match a new account.
